Conservation / Preservation Projects


40+ acres, a cooperative effort among the Cities of Jacksonville and Atlantic Beach, Florida Communities Trust, and the Jacksonville Port Authority.  Tom Dumas was the Duval County Delegation’s appointee to the Jacksonville Environmental Lands Selection Committee and played a key role in preserving last readily developable island in the Intracoastal Waterway.  Thomas Dumas, Inc. represented the owner, Mr. Dutton in the sale of the property, and served as a consultant to the Cities of Jacksonville and Atlantic Beach during the Florida Communities Trust grant application process.

Ortega Stream Valley Park
380+ acres, a cooperative effort between the City of Jacksonville, St. Johns Water Management District, and the State of Florida.  The park protects and enhances the west bank of McGirts Creek/Ortega River and adjoining Ringhaver Park to the north.

Roosevelt Blvd./Westside Regional Park Mitigation Area
Conserved with the St. Johns River Water Management District, this project provides a buffer along the east bank of McGirts Creek/Ortega River, south of Jacksonville’s Westside Regional Park.

San Carlos Creek Buffer
56 acres, this project protects San Carlos Creek by providing a forested buffer from JEA’s Northside Generating Station.  The buffer also preserves Native American shell middens north of Heckscher Drive, east of SR-9A.
